In our December/January 2017 issue we penned a piece about the exponential growth of the barbering and grooming industry. And in just a few weeks a ground-breaking festival is set to take place across East London to celebrate the booming industry. The CUT Festival will house an unprecedented number of pop up festivals at barber shops and exhibition spaces, exploring and celebrating the art of barbering via performances, events and international guests. Visitors can expect photographic contributions from Hick Duarte, photographer and director from Sao Paolo who specialises in documenting youth culture. Other highlights include a GIF-based portrait exhibition of black barber shops in Oakland, California called Tapered Throne and a sneak peek from Inua Ellams new play Barber Shop Chronicles, which is scheduled to run at The National Theatre this summer.
