London Fashion Week returned to the capital city recently, and once again we were there backstage and centre front to scan all the future trends that we will be inspired by for summer 2019. Leading haircare brand Toni & Guy is the official hair sponsors for LFW and its Label M hair products are used backstage on all the models. We have rounded up some of the key trends that caught our eye.
Full, fluffy FROS!
Big, beautiful Afros took centre stage at the shows, inspired by the natural hair movement and the fact that many women are opting to ditch the straighteners in favour of more natural, textured looks. What was also noteworthy about the Afros on display, was the authenticity. In the past, major fashion shows have tended to use Afros as fun props, sometimes verging on caricature. However, this certainly wasn’t the case on this occasion, instead what we saw was an unabashed celebration of the beauty of diversity.
Curls World
Beautifully defined spiral curls also had its moment on the catwalk at London Fashion Week. Natural hair was blown out and sectioned, before being styled into little ringlets evocative of child star Shirley Temple’s signature look.

Future so Bright
Dancehall culture received an honorary nod when models were sent down the catwalk with hair that was straightened, slicked down and coloured in bright, florescent shades reminiscent of flamboyant Dancehall Queens from the ’90s.

Twisty TWAs
Teeny weeny Afros were seen all over the catwalk, however, we were presented with a twist on the iconic hairstyle with short natural crops elongated and defined with flexi rods, demonstrating the transformative nature of natural hair. The style was complemented by the makeup, which was pared down: nude glossy eyes and lips were framed by thick brows.
