It’s taken 15 years to bring to the market, but finally leading haircare company Pantene has unveiled their long-awaited range designed specifically for Afro textured hair called Gold Series.
Spearheaded by Dr Rolanda Wilkerson PHD, an African American scientist, Dr Wilkerson noticed a void in the market and was determined to create a range that utilised the latest innovations in science and would be considerably beneficial to women with Afro textured hair. She told elle.com “Pantene began by conducting research in Nigeria and Kenya, working with stylists and their clients. The brand learned what competitive products they used, the gaps of those products, and co-created prototypes with the stylists that they evaluated on their clients’ hair. Based on the stylists’ and clients’ feedback, the brand modified the formulations accordingly. Additionally, Pantene conducted a Hair Harvest study to evaluate the surface of afro hair; measuring oxidative damage, level of ingredient deposition, level of physical damage, hydrophilicity, and other hair properties.”
The range was launched in the UK recently and consists of six products including Leave On Detangling Milk, Intense Hydrating Oil, Moisture Boost Conditioning and Hydrating Butter Cream. Due to the main ingredient of Argan oil, products are extremely moisturising without weighing heavily on the hair. Other ingredients include kernel oil, limonene and lemongrass, which leads to a fragrant, citrus scent, (this is certainly a winner if you like fruity fragrances). Prices start from an affordable £5.99, which is quite the steal considering the stellar quality, and products are currently exclusive to Superdrug which you can shop here.
