An exciting new venture is launching next month in the capital called Peckham Palms, created for Afro hair and beauty start-up companies and individuals. Set in one of the city’s most vibrant environments renowned for its diversity and culture – Peckham, South East London – the centre is widely anticipated by its local residents, and hair and beauty enthusiasts alike.
The services offered at Peckham Palms will not be solely concentrated on hair, but will also consist of nail bars, makeup stations and beauty services and fashion, making it a one-stop destination to receive different hair and beauty services under one roof. In addition, there will be a café offering Caribbean fusion treats, creative cocktails and a social space making it inviting for everyone. The Palms aims to be the go-to place for popular hairstyles such as braids, extensions, natural hairstyles, and so much more. This will be the first venture of its kind and is hotly anticipated by those in the Afro hairdressing industry.
With so much discussion recently about the issue of black female owners being underrepresented in the black hair industry in the UK, Peckham Palms is being viewed as a breath of fresh air as it aims to empower black female hair and beauty workers, and it’s also worth noting that three out of four Directors of The Palms are Black women, two being local. The organisation is keen to provide a space for other black female business owners to grow, and also want to ensure that the black hair industry will flourish in Peckham for years to come.
Ultimately, Peckham Palms aims to be a creative and inspiring space where customers and hair professionals can enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship, and also maintain the community spirit that Peckham is historically renowned for.
Be sure to check them out when they open next month.
