Gabrielle Smith wanted a twist and restyle for her locs, so she went to check out One Stop Dreadlock in North London, a hair salon specialising in locs and natural hairstyles for black and mixed heritage hair types.
What was the condition of your hair like prior to your salon visit?
My hair was in pretty good condition prior to my salon visit.
What did you hope to achieve with your salon visit?
I’ve had shoulder-length locs for around five-six years but recently cut them quite short and also coloured them. So I was interested in seeing how I could wear my new length in a different way.
Describe the decor and atmosphere of the salon…
I found the décor and atmosphere of the salon modern and welcoming. The owner mentioned it had only been open for a few months, which I found pretty impressive.
What service did you have done?
I had my locs washed, twisted and styled in an updo which I loved!
Were you given any advice about after care?
Yes I was. I usually have my hair interlocked but was advised to stick with having my locs palm rolled in the future to prevent weakening my hair.
What was the best thing about your salon experience?
My loctician Sarah was really helpful with answering questions I had about styling/after care. The level of customer service was great – I’d definitely go back and recommend it to others.
Salon owner Sarah Adeyemi says: “The service Gabrielle received was a wash and retwist (with a mix of hand and comb twist) followed by a natural conditioning oil rinse (with handcrafted organic mint and castor oil). Her hair was then styled into a mohawk which added definition to her face”
